Opening day

Opening day in Baseball seems to mean so much more than in any other sport. I'm not sure why, technically it should seem to mean the least since they play so many more games than any of the other major sports. I think there are two reasons why opening day holds that special place in our hearts.

1. Plain old long standing tradition.
2. Daytime games ie. skipping work.

Anyway there's not much you can learn from opening day. Sure Pujols hit two home runs yesterday, but that doesn't mean he'll have 324 for the season, sure the Yankees lost their first game but that doesn't mean they won't win their division, heck even the Pirates won big yesterday but that doesn't mean they'll be anywhere but a last place team at the end of the season.

So while opening day may be fun and exciting and the beginning of Spring, it doesn't really reflect what the new season will bring. Of course it does provide us with plays such as Mark Buehrle's.
