Crazy bet time

In what is becoming an annual tradition, the PMS crew places crazy bets for the upcoming Blazer season. Here's how it works. We each make a crazy bet, then we discuss if it is crazy enough and then if your prediction comes true you get a cool $5 from everyone else. So without further ado...

Derek: Oden scores 50 points in a game
Loren: Blazers score 130 points in regulation
Chris: Bayless wins Rookie of the Year
Philipp: Rudy (Rudolfo) Fernandez averages more points, assists, rebounds and FG% than Brandon Roy in his rookie year. Minimum 42 games played.

Go ahead and leave your crazy bets in the comments section (please note we ain't paying you anything). We'll leave you with some Oden love.

I'm going to rank our bets from easiest to hardest to achieve and why.

Easiest:
Loren: Blazers score 130 points in regulation

This has to be the most achievable of all the bets. It is still considered a crazy bet because the blazers averaged 95.4 pts/g (4th worst in the NBA). However, the blazers are adding two dynamic scorers in Bayless and Rudolfo. Plus, Oden that will increase fast break points with his defense and help the blazers with 2nd chance pts. Playing against fast paced teams like the Suns, GS, Clips, Thunder, etc. This is definitely in the realm of possibility.

Difficult yet not totally improbable:
Chris: Bayless wins Rookie of the Year

Bayless already showed the kind of talent he is by averaging a near 30 pts per game, being selected to the USA select team, and winning the best rookie award at the summer league. I think Bayless is going to get some serious minutes by year end to rack up his stats. My perdiction - by January, he'll be our starting PG, next to Brandon. There are definitely a lot more rookies that have better chances then Bayless but he could be asked to take a large roll on this team. He has a large chip on his shoulder by slipping in the draft, which makes his chances for winning ROY even greater.

Difficult to attain them all:
Philipp: Rudy (Rudolfo) Fernandez averages more points, assists, rebounds and FG% than Brandon Roy in his rookie year. Minimum 42 games played.

Brandon did all this averaging 36 minutes per game. I don't think he'll get that many minutes, more like (25-30). 16.8 pts (very attainable), 4.0 assts (moderate because he'll be passing to Bayless and Trout), 4.4 rbs (tough, with Joel, LMA, Frye, and Oden as our bigs), FG% (difficult, he's a volume shooter). I think it comes down to Bayless or Fernandez, one of these two are going to take the bulk of minutes lost by Jack. To beat all four of Roy's averages is going to be tough. Maybe this should be the payout:

4 of 4 - $5
3 of 4 - $3.75
2 of 4 - $2.5
1 of 4 - $1.25

Very difficult:
Derek: Oden scores 50 points in a game

Let's list the scorers on our team: Brandon, Lamarcus, Travis, Rudolfo, Jerryd...with Frye and Webster as scoring options too. Oden will have to play a team that doesn't have strong low post defense. There are several teams like that GS, NY, MIN, DEN, and MEM. The stars will have to align but hey it only takes one monster game.

Note: Most points scored in a game by a rookie. Wilt Chamberlin scored 58 points in a game. He actually did it twice. He also holds the most rebounds in a game by a rookie 45 and all-time 55.

I hope Greg averages 20pts and 20rbs some day.
