This morning it was announced that Oregon State’s Baseball team will not be part of the NCAA tournament. Looking solely at their record this year it’s not hard to see why. With an 11-13 Pac-10 (or is it Pac-9 until next year) and finishing 6th in the conference you would think that there is no way the Beavs would make it. But this is the NCAA’s baseball tournament where common sense does not usually come in to play. Going into the selection the Beavers were thought to be a bubble team they had the following things going for them:
Two Time Defending Champions
Series wins over Arizona ST, Arizona, UCLA and Georgia
Total of five series wins versus tournament teams
Three wins over #1 seeds
Unfortunately the Beavers had many bad loses this year as well. Specifically a three game sweep to USC to end league play. My gut is if they win that series they would still be playing.
