This morning it was announced that Oregon State’s Baseball team will not be part of the NCAA tournament. Looking solely at their record this year it’s not hard to see why. With an 11-13 Pac-10 (or is it Pac-9 until next year) and finishing 6th in the conference you would think that there is no way the Beavs would make it. But this is the NCAA’s baseball tournament where common sense does not usually come in to play. Going into the selection the Beavers were thought to be a bubble team they had the following things going for them:
Two Time Defending Champions
Series wins over Arizona ST, Arizona, UCLA and Georgia
Total of five series wins versus tournament teams
Three wins over #1 seeds
Unfortunately the Beavers had many bad loses this year as well. Specifically a three game sweep to USC to end league play. My gut is if they win that series they would still be playing.

I say they should have been kept out of the tourney. This is for the college world series this year, not for the past 3 years. Wins in the past seasons don't matter.
How would this feel?
Blazers next year win the same amount of games and own the tie break against San Antonio for the eight spot but the league says that San Antonio has been a perennial playoff team with a handfull on championships. So they give the 8th spot to the Spurs.
The fact of the matter is the Pac-10 is the best baseball league in the country. We're not talking about wins from past seasons, we're talking about a great Pac-10 beating each other up during league play. If the selection committee would actually grow some balls and make selections based on quality of wins/losses, then the majority of the Pac-10 would have gone to the CWS. I really, really hate the BCS formula, but does anyone believe that OSU would have been left out if the selection process was based on a BCS type formula?
